SCHLÜCHTERN TUNNEL, GERMANY

Where existing and new structures comes together: RAILONE Engineering for the highest safety standards

For the modernisation of the Schlüchtern Tunnel, RAILONE supplied the RHEDA 2000® and GETRAC® A3 systems and developed an EBA-approved access system, supporting the safe implementation of one of the most demanding tunnel projects on the Fulda–Frankfurt line.

Due to its age and new safety requirements, the 3.5 km Schlüchtern Tunnel on the heavily trafficked Fulda–Frankfurt line was supplemented by a new parallel double-track tunnel. Following its completion, the existing tunnel was refurbished and reduced to a single track. One track was subsequently installed in the new tunnel as well. Today, each tunnel tube serves one direction of travel and complies with current safety standards.

RAILONE supplied the RHEDA 2000® ballastless track system for the new tunnel and GETRAC® A3 for the existing tunnel. An EBA-approved access system was also developed for GETRAC® A3, enabling emergency vehicles to travel through the tunnel without being guided by the rails. Thanks to RAILONE’s proven systems and the expertise of our specialists, this complex project was successfully implemented.
