BRANDLEITE TUNNEL, GERMANY
GETRAC® A3 for Higher Speeds and a Reduced Construction Height in the Brandleite Tunnel
In 2005, RAILONE equipped the approximately three-kilometre Brandleite Tunnel near Oberhof with 6.3 km of the GETRAC® A3 ballastless track system, enabling higher speeds and the use of tilting train technology.
The Brandleite Tunnel near Oberhof in Thuringia has been in operation since the late 19th century and was extensively modernised on behalf of Deutsche Bahn. In 2005, the line was upgraded for tilting train technology and expanded to double track in order to increase operating speeds.
The GETRAC® A3 ballastless track system was selected for the approximately three-kilometre tunnel section. Thanks to its system-specific wide sleepers, it enables a reduced construction height, making it particularly suitable for existing tunnels. A total of 6.3 km of ballastless track was installed. The Brandleite Tunnel was the fourth consecutive tunnel to be equipped with GETRAC® A3 by RAILONE.
