RHEDA 2000® IN ONE OF SCANDINAVIA’S LONGEST TUNNELS
In 2019 and 2020, RAILONE supplied more than 61,000 RHEDA 2000® sleepers for the 20 km Follo Line between Oslo and Ski, Norway’s first ballastless track project designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h.
The construction of the 20 km double-track ballastless line in a tunnel excavated using tunnel boring machines significantly increases rail capacity between Oslo and Ski, with maximum speeds of 250 km/h. The project is Norway’s largest transport infrastructure project and forms the centrepiece of the InterCity expansion south of Oslo. The Follo Line tunnel is the longest railway tunnel in Scandinavia and Norway’s first long twin-bore railway tunnel.
It is also Norway’s first ballastless track project and marks the debut of the RHEDA 2000® system in the country. In collaboration with Pandrol and AGJV, RAILONE also designed the transition zone between ballasted and ballastless track. In addition to the tunnel, the overall project includes extensive work at Oslo Central Station, the construction of a new station in Ski and modifications to the existing Østfold Line.
