Amstelveen Line: A Modern, noise-reduced Tram Solution in Amsterdam
RAILONE supplied RHEDA CITY GREEN and RHEDA CITY MTC for the Amstelveen Line in Amsterdam between 2019 and 2020 as part of the modernisation of an existing tram connection.
The Amstelveen Line is a modernised high-quality tram connection between Amsterdam West and Amsterdam South. The upgrade became necessary because the previous express trams were outdated, prone to faults and frequently overcrowded, while also presenting safety deficiencies. RAILONE supplied the RHEDA CITY GREEN system for the project and provided engineering services for the local transport authority.
The construction work was complex and included separating the line from the existing metro network. The selected solution offers reduced noise emissions and low maintenance requirements, contributing to high cost-effectiveness. Construction took approximately two years and was supported by Amsterdam’s public transport operator, with VITAL acting as the main contractor. The upgraded Line 25 has been in successful operation since December 2020.
