CLINTON, USA: HIGH-QUALITY, MODULAR PLANT TECHNOLOGY FOR A DIVERSE PRODUCT RANGE

No distance is too far. Despite challenging climatic conditions, RAILONE constructed a production plant to ensure a sustainable supply of concrete ties for the United States.

Although wooden ties have traditionally dominated the US market, demand for concrete ties continues to grow. High-quality products from reliable manufacturers support American railway operators in making the long-term transition. Against this backdrop, we successfully entered the US market in 2014.

In less than a year, a fully operational plant was opened in Clinton, Iowa, despite challenging weather conditions including tornadoes, freezing winds and extreme winter snowfall. At the time, the new facility was the first carousel system for manufacturing prestressed concrete ties on the American continent. Combined with high-quality, modular plant technology, it was one of the most advanced concrete sleeper production plants in the world.

PROJECT DETAILS:

  • The plant is focused on meeting the requirements of the North American railway company Union Pacific Railroad and employs up to 100 people

  • Since opening, the plant has also supplied other Class I railway companies, including Canadian Pacific and Canadian National Railway

  • Ties manufactured in Clinton meet the highest requirements for heavy haul transport. Their design is based on AREMA and ASTM standards as well as stringent customer-specific requirements

  • RAILONE’s US subsidiary manufactures ties for Urban Transit and Long Distance and Freight Transport in the United States, which can also be supplied to neighbouring countries

  • Concrete tie production at the plant complies with the requirements of the Buy America Act. The facility is certified not only to ISO 9001 but also to ACI and PCI standards and holds M-1003 certification
