Edinburgh Tram: Successful Delivery of a Complex Urban Tram Line
For the 14 km Edinburgh Tram line in Scotland, RAILONE supplied approximately 21,000 RHEDA CITY and RHEDA CITY GREEN sleepers and provided planning services through RAILONE Engineering. The line entered service in 2014.
Edinburgh Tram connects the airport with the centre of the Scottish capital and includes 15 stops. As part of the project, RAILONE specialists provided planning support for approximately two years. A key factor in awarding the contract was RAILONE’s ability to provide not only a proven ballastless track system but also suitable solutions for turnouts and ballasted track.
The demanding route alignment presented specific challenges. Gradients, varying ground conditions and different surfaces such as asphalt and grass required a particularly flexible system. RHEDA CITY and RHEDA CITY GREEN met these requirements through their high adaptability and durability. All required quality standards and verification requirements were also fulfilled during project implementation.
